 Habakkuk 2:4 declares a foundational truth: “the righteous will live by his faith,” echoed in Hebrews 10:38 and clarified in 11:1. Faith is often misapplied to personal desires, yet Habakkuk presents it as trust in God's promises, particularly salvation. In contrast, the proud rely on their own abilities, leading to judgment (2:4, 18). Habakkuk initially questions God’s justice as the wicked prosper (1:2-4), but God reveals His sovereign plan, raising the Chaldeans as instruments of judgment (1:5-11). Understanding God's justice, Habakkuk pleads for mercy (3:2) and affirms faith as complete reliance on God. His hymn of praise models this trust, later echoed by Paul in Romans 1:17.
