Conflict in Luke: Jesus, Authorities, Disciples

Intertwined with Luke's story of Jesus are two other story lines the story of the authorities, who come into conflict with Jesus over the crucial issue of whom God has chosen to rule. After an introductory chapter giving the setting of Luke's Gospel, outlining the characters (Narrator, God, Satan, Jesus, Disciples, Religious Authorities, People, Minor Characters) and the plot, Kingsbury retells the Gospel as the story of Jesus, the story of the authorities, and the story of the disciples. This retelling emphasizes Jesus as Israel's Messiah and God's Son and reveals the religious authorities as self-righteous, while the disciples are seen as spiritually immature. This is a good book explaining the meaning of the conflicts in Luke.
