Thompson Chain Reference Bible

I am always looking for new references and Bibles to help me dive deeper into God’s Word. I was so excited when I was offered the opportunity, from Bible Gateway, to receive The Thompson Chain Reference Bible in exchange for an honest review. This Bible is a great tool for both average Christians and scholars.

There are over 100,000 chain references within the margins next to the verses they correspond to. They give the topic name and number followed by the next verse in the chain. They also include parallel passages and where something is quoted from. The margins also include possible dates of when events took place. This is all greatly helpful material.

Zondervan’s initial release of the classic Thompson Chain-Reference Bible comes in KJV, NKJV, ESV, or NASB (1977) editions in hardcover, bonded leather, or leathersoft. The standard edition of each of these Bibles features a 6.5” x 9.25” trim size and an 8.3pt type size for the main text of scripture (the KJV is also available in Large Print and Handy Size editions). Each edition is Smyth-sewn and comes with crisp white paper that is right around 30 GSM which is important because I like to tame notes. My hardcover copy was printed in the USA and feels good in hand.

What makes this Bible so attractive is the reference system and textual helps. I was unfamiliar with the Thompson Chain-Reference, but after reading the short intro, I already understand how to use it. I can see why people love this Bible. The reference system doesn’t only include cross references, it also includes topics. This is hugely helpful with study. The amount of references are massive boasting over 100,000. I will use this Bible for years to come
