Coloe is the professor of the New Testament at Xama Theological Union, a college of the University of Divinity in Melbourne. The commentary is rich in theological and pastoral insights on this profound gospel. Furthermore, the feminist viewpoint of this author and series strengthens the Gospel's enduring message.

This volume is voluminous in biblical scholarship. Like the first volume by Cole, this volume is very professional and contemporaneous. Cole's thoughtful and nuanced interpretation of the Gospel of John is a welcome addition to the distinctive Wisdom Commentary series. She brings traditional norms of scholarship, feminism, and common perspectives to a lively, contemporary reading of the Gospel of John.

Overall, the book includes all the information that one may find helpful before moving on to read the real commentary for someone who has no prior understanding of feminism or Bible studies. This commentary is filled with useful insights about John's Gospel. Coloe analyzes the Gospel of John both historically and through the perspective of contemporary literature.
