John MacArthur is the pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California. He has served in this position since 1969. He is known around the world for his expository preaching, biblical-theological scholarship, and his pulpit ministry via his daily radio teaching program. Dr. MacArthur has also written or edited nearly four hundred books. His scholarly work identifies him with many evangelical writers.   Some have greatly criticized the book of Matthew because it uses Hosea 11:1 to apply to Jesus Christ. Originally, Hosea was talking about God calling Israel out of Egypt. Yet, Matthew adapted Hosea’s statement to say God called Jesus out of Egypt. Was Matthew wrong for doing this? No, at least I do not think so. Matthew Pearce wrote a good dissertation on this topic called, The redemptive function and theological meaning of Matthew's citation of Hosea 11:1.  “[Matthew] introduces many of his direct quotations from Scripture with the stereotyped formula ‘this was to fulfill what was spoken’….and they offer an authorial commentary on the narrative,” Luke T.   I am always looking for new references and Bibles to help me dive deeper into God’s Word. I was so excited when I was offered the opportunity, from Bible Gateway, to receive The Thompson Chain Reference Bible in exchange for an honest review. This Bible is a great tool for both average Christians and scholars.   There are over 100,000 chain references within the margins next to the verses they correspond to. They give the topic name and number followed by the next verse in the chain. They also include parallel passages and where something is quoted from. The margins also include possible dates of when events took place. This is all greatly helpful material.  Zondervan’s initial release of the classic Thompson Chain-Reference Bible comes in KJV, NKJV, ESV, or NASB (1977) editions in hardcover, bonded leather, or leathersoft. Over the past years, the terms and ideas of inspiration and inerrancy have come under attack.. While these terms, inspiration and inerrancy, have been misconstrued and redefined by the modern world, it is important that we understand the concepts that these two terms refer to, and why they must be maintained as part of the Christian faith. Many prominent Christians believe in inerrancy, or that the Bible is without error.     The doctrine of inerrancy teaches that the Bible, when properly interpreted, does not make any mistakes or contain any myths. I first encountered the doctrine of biblical inerrancy as an undergraduate at Liberty University Online. The school’s faith statement affirms that “The Bible, both Old and New Testaments, though written by men, was supernaturally inspired by God so that all its words are the written true revelation of God; it is therefore inerrant in the originals and authoritative in all matters.” I am in full agreement with that statement.  ...

 I received a copy of the Matthew Henry Study Bible in response I will write an unbiased review. The Bible Gateway Blogger grid is a very nice industry for all Christians, young and old.  For300 years, believers have turned to Matthew Henry s timeless commentary for clear, concise help in understanding the Bible. prefer my study Bibles to be hardback. Because they will be getting used a lot. Plus my hardback study Bibles stand up in my library. This is a great product. Matthew Henry's commentary is superb, containing the doctrines of historic Christianity. He does not deduce an ounce of modern heresy within his writing. His writings are devotional in nature so this is not a study and exegetical resource.  This Bible is something I will use to do my devotional studies in 2023.
